Who am I?
Lou Hart previously worked as a wildlife illustrator and now creates detailed and powerful felted portraits, ceramics, illustrations and sketches. Subjects range from the Dead (from a variety of timelines and geographical locations) via the Fae in differing guises, to mythological beings and deities. Inspired by connection with Santa Muerte, (the syncretic Roman Catholic and pre-Columbian death goddess) during Covid lockdown, the felted works on display reference the ubiquity of death while exploring the realms of spirit. Lou also produces sketches and illustrations of wildlife and animals,as well as paintings of landscape and of protest.
In a time where rage, hatred and anger seems to be on display constantly, and when humanity is in danger of destroying other life forms as well as our planet, the ubiquity of death and the beauty of spirit and the natural wild sends a powerful message about equality, diversity and our place on this Earth which is, after all, made up from the remains of our ancestors and from our animal kin.
